What I soon realized is that this feature isn’t accessible for most people yet.
So I played around to see if I can enable that feature for my friends. It seems as though most of the people who have successfully posted 3D photos are tech folks.
I thought to myself “There must be some criteria around these people…”
Gaining access to the 3D Photo Feature
After searching around for a while, I found a “Facebook 360” Facebook fan page that I was following. Turns out you can’t see who’s a fan of a given page (especially one as big the Facebook 360 page). But, you can see who likes a given post on that page. The people who were liking the (3D photo) posts on that page happened to be users that can also upload 3D photos and were!
So, here’s the theory I come up with:
You can gain an instant access to the 3D photo sharing feature if you ‘like’ the Facebook 360 Community fan page
So, I tested that with my friends.
And bingo. It works!
Uploading your first 3D post on Facebook
From what I see, currently the 3D photo feature is only limited to iPhone users with 2 cameras, which consists of iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. The rest of the iPhones can’t upload any 3D photo regardless.
If your phone is compatibility with the feature, all you need to do is like the Facebook 360 page, restart your phone, and the 3D photo upload feature will be enabled on your Facebook application.
After that, click on ‘Create Post’ and select ‘3D Photo’.
The application will show you photos from your phone’s Portrait folder. Select your favorite…
And boom! your first 3D post will be created.
